It was quite jarring to go from what i thought was a good midgame position to being much closer to the bottom of the 20 person new game. it's a ton of people, and the swap separated me from my closest allies. I find the veterans to be very intimidating. during my short time on refuge I found them to be very aggressive social players. They all messaged me first and engaged in what I perceived to be "Cursory get-to-know-gary" talks. I quizzed them a little about their history with stranded but I could always tell that they wanted me as a number when refuge was sent into the game. Brian laid some good ground for me to come into, but nobody seemed interested in separating me from him This is a good thing (I plan to continue working with Brian for a bit). and a bad thing (nobody cared to include me in a gamepath as an individual.
As for my future with the vets, I think that at least 1 needs to go before the merge. Even though I know they were scrapping each other a little bit on refuge, that was purely out of necessity. Based on how they interact, I believe they will always work together. They are also formidable as individual immunity challenge competitors (I noticed that each of them appeared to throw the first immunity challenge). So yeah, I'm not a fan of the vets and they enter the game immediately as the favorites to win. If the newbies are to defeat the vets, it will almost certainly require Brian turning on them or us getting him out.
My game is in survival mode for the time being. I got a pretty bad draw at the swap and with another Lucayan going out, it seems evident that my name isn't as far down the list of targets as I would like. Meanwhile, I'm very interested how things shake up on Lucayan where my old tribe should be calling the shots, but I'm pretty sure it will be moreso Brian and the vets dictating each target. The elimination of Blake first over Mari was indicative of this (I really wanted Blake out, but I would have preferred if they voted Mari out first as an easy shot to Taino's numbers) .
As far as allies over here, I feel that I have grown closer with Brooke and hope she continues to get more active. I also plan to work with Ryan, but not Drew. None of the Taino are welcoming me into any sort of working relationship, I had to abruptly ask them about the vote yesterday. Either they are planning on working with Ryan instead of me, or they have no long term plans other than winning tribal immunities and keeping their 5 together..
